IoT serves as the protocol token for the Helium IoT Network. It was introduced via the community proposal HIP-52 and is elaborated upon in later HIPs (1, 2). The initial IOT tokens were minted after the Solana migration on April 18, 2023. The Helium IoT Network aims to make connectivity accessible to everyone. It employs a distinctive consensus algorithm called Proof-of-Coverage, which rewards participants for confirming wireless network coverage.
